Sunday Suggestion – Alice Gold – How Long Can These Streets Be Empty

Alice Gold is the stage name of Alice McLaughlin from London. She’s very much known for being a purveyor of catchy and rhythmic pop and guitar pop that’s often tied together by her at times soulful and powerful vocal that she often delivers without any qualms. In 2011 she released her debut LP as Alice Gold with Seven Rainbows which included the infectious ‘Orbiter’ and the soft and fluffy pop tracks such as ‘Runaway Love’. The most accomplished tracks are often found within the album and ‘How Long Can These Streets Be Empty’ is certainly one of those. The cascading percussion reels off the bold, sharp edged guitars that reverberate throughout the track, as does the deep rooted bass line which generates an innate buzz at the song’s core. This gives Alice’s vocal the freedom to explore it’s range and meander amongst the controlled distortion before fading out amongst it all. A well driven, yet far from clean cut track.
