Single Review – Belle and Sebastian – The Party Line

The beginning of any song is always the most important part for me, as it is the part of the song which draws you in and intrigues you. This was certainly done in ‘The Party Line’ by Belle and Sebastian, with the sound of the synth and drums almost seeming to come increasingly into focus, bursting into life and character when the full volume of these sounds is given. The presence of the guitar is also a strong point that I identify with this song, punctuating the song and giving it a melodious bite, which is a good parallel against the deadpan vocals. I also love how each of these parts of this song don’t simply disappear after the first minute of the song; they do reappear, and carry my appreciation of this song throughout its duration.
