Single Review – Eliot Sumner – Species

Eliot Sumner recently followed up on the success of her debut solo EP Information with another in Early Reflections and in this case she has reimagined the use of the electronic elements of her music  from using them as part of a whirring point of continuity to now utilising them as part of the track’s tune and melody and this is demonstrated well here with ‘Species’. It’s a track that resembles a more modern version of John Foxx’s earlier work with those rumbling beats met with still dark rhythm sections overlapping them. Her husky and low toned vocal echoes and breaks its way through these sounds easily without overbearing them and so a great balanced is achieved here and really all we need now is an album from Eliot Sumner, for it would be an interesting one indeed.
