Single Review – The Sherlocks – Chasing Shadows

Sheffield indie band The Sherlocks (well Bolton upon Dearne indie band, but near enough to allow their sound to be incorporated into the city’s Indie band genre) are building their sound and following after supporting the Libertines on arena tour dates and becoming the first unsigned band since, clear influences, Arctic Monkeys to sell out Leadmill. New single ‘Chasing Shadows’ shines with the kind of added working-class bombastic splendour both iconic bands would adore. Kiaran Crook’s vocal (lead vocal/rhythm guitar) is so reminiscent of the clipped sharp tongue wit of Paul Smith and Alex Turner that it’s hard not to be pulled into the song’s image of ‘The morning after the night before’. Very much a family affair, drummer Brandon Crook creates a fierce energy to the track, while Josh Davidson (lead guitar/vocals) and his brother bassist Andy Davidson (bass/ backing vocals) swathe the chorus with guitar lines that produce a driving track with the joyous festival ready punch of The Vaccines.
