Single Review – Vaults – Hurricane

Vaults were featured here on musicandotherthingz.com over two years ago with their first EP Lifespan and since then, they’ve grown in popularity and recognition particularly this year with a more uplifting track in ‘Midnight River’ and with their featured track in the the latest John Lewis advert. Their debut album Caught In Still Life has been primed with enough savvy promotion for a December 2nd release and with it, a release of their latest single ‘Hurricane’. This single has more in common with the sparse, atmospheric soundscapes of their early work as opposed to sing-a-long side of their recent efforts. Reverberating bass tones and wispy, echoed percussion forms the foundation of the sound with light synth chords and an assertive vocal adding to the natural flow of the song. This track is almost reminiscent of Hurts’ earlier work; slick, stylish tracks from which emotive imagery emerges from the icy mists of their sound. This sound could take them down a number of avenues and hopefully they chose the path that will do their promising talent justice.
