Don't Look Down...
This Weeks Music Video. From Damon Albarn with Everyday Robots, Pixies with Magdalena, Marissa Nadler with Dead City Emily and British Sea Power with A Light Above Descending
Marissa Nadler from Washington D.C has been making dream folk music for nearly a decade since her debut album in 2004. She is to release her seventh album and the follow up from The Sister with July; which is to be released on February 4th. The first song to be taken from this is ‘Dead City Emily’. It starts off with and maintains a sombre and delicate acoustic riff which is similar to that of some of Simon & Garfunkel’s catalogue. Her vocal adds to this feel of muted drama with a vocal style that sits between the lazed and raw style of Laura Marling and at other times, that of a vocal that can sustain more depth and power like that of Anna Calvi. The soft and low lying synths add that extra dimension to what is a simple song musically and add a basic harmony to the music and vocals. It also allows the maintenance of the atmosphere and the feel of the song to last beyond the songs ending after it has faded out.
